Trust Comes With A Price

It’s tough to believe the words people say,
When promises fade and just slip away.
They claim they’ve changed, they swear it’s true,
But then you see them hurt others like they did you.

They say they’ll be better, they’ll never betray,
Yet their actions speak louder, day after day.
With smiles for their friends, they play the part well,
But behind those bright faces, it’s easy to tell.

How can we trust when trust feels like glass,
One crack, one slip, and it shatters so fast?
We wish we could trust what’s spoken out loud,
But their choices remind us of what’s not allowed.

So we hold our hearts close, afraid to let go,
Caught in the silence of all that we know.
It’s hard to believe in a promise made clear,
When the truth in their actions is painfully near.
