When I was just a child, eight or nine,
No phone in hand, no screen to bind,
I watched as friends would scroll away,
But I was free to run and play.
I felt uncool, maybe a little ashamed,
And Dad was always the one I blamed.
I was afraid I’d miss out on what was trending, what was cool,
But now I see, I wasn’t the fool.
Social media brings a heavy toll,
A breeding ground for a darkened soul.
But give them time, let them be free,
And watch them grow, just wait and see.
So let the kids be kids today,
Take the phones and screens away.
For in the end, what they will find,
Is life’s best moments they left behind.
